To Blog or Not to Blog: THAT is the Question.

Updated: Jul 24

Blogging serves several purposes:

1. Self-expression: It allows individuals to share their thoughts, opinions, and experiences with a wider audience.

2. Information sharing: Blogs can be used to educate others on specific topics or share expertise.

3. Building an online presence: For businesses or professionals, blogging can help establish authority in their field.

4. Community building: Blogs often attract like-minded individuals, fostering discussions and connections.

5. Personal growth: Writing regularly can improve communication skills and help clarify one's thoughts.

6. Marketing: Companies use blogs to attract potential customers and promote their products or services.

7. Creative outlet: Blogging provides a platform for creative writing and storytelling.

8. Documentation: Some use blogs as a way to record personal or professional journeys.

BUT one of the most significant benefits of blogging, especially from a digital marketing perspective: SEO enhancement is a key function of blogging, always adding fresh content to drive organic traffic to a website.

Here's why it's so important:

1. Fresh content: Search engines favour websites that regularly update their content. A blog provides an easy way to consistently add new, relevant content to a website.

2. Increased indexing: Each blog post is a new page for search engines to index, increasing the site's overall visibility.

3. Keyword opportunities: Blog posts allow for natural inclusion of relevant keywords and long-tail phrases that people might search for.

4. Backlink potential: Quality content is more likely to be linked to by other websites, improving the site's authority in search rankings.

5. Improved site structure: Blogs can enhance internal linking, helping search engines understand the site's structure and content relationships.

6. Longer site visits: Engaging blog content can keep visitors on the site longer, potentially improving search rankings.

7. Social signals: Blog posts are shareable on social media, which can indirectly benefit SEO.

It's a powerful tool for improving online visibility and realistically you will see results when you get multiple posts. Frequency and timing is also very important: 3+ posts every week and posting between 10.00am and 3.30pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

But don't stop there - keep blogging, (it's quite therapeutic).

If your website doesn't include a blog page and you haven't scheduled blog posts up to 3 months ahead, you are missing out on lots of organic traffic.
